Why are Down Syndrome people treated differently?

As soon as I said our 33 year old son had Down Syndrome he seemed to go into another category. I said that at an early checkups they said he had an odd shaped heart valve that heaps of people will have but don't now about. Bad move as then the list of questions like does he go blue round mouth, fingers, does get dizzy, the one that took the cake was has he grown at the normal rate. I kept saying "no, no, no, he's a weight lifter, never been on medication, never goes to the doctor. Come on if he had a heart problem he would be on medication and not lifting 135kg weights three days a week in the gym. Down Syndrome is not a disease and should be treated like everyone else.

So easy to purchase

But have not required to make a claim. Would we have the same experience should we need to make a claim?

Straightforward Claims Process

I had to make a claim and the claims process was very straightforward, and they were very helpful on the phone. Very happy with my experience with 1Cover

I had the worst experience ever with 1cover.

It took around 9 months to get reimbursed for a claim that was very straight forward. I wasted hours of my life chasing up this claim. We will never use 1cover again.

Great product

Quick and easy to organise along with being well priced. When we wanted to extend covered time very easy to do. We will use again.

Easy to book

I have no real idea whether this is a good insurance company or not. I would only find that out when I have to make a claim.

Not worth it

My airline cancelled our flight and rebooked us for the next day. This was a week or so before we left. This caused me extra cost of accommodation and flights as we had ongoing flights booked. Contacting the claims team I was immediately informed this was excluded as the cancellation did not happen on the day. Speaking to my travel agent he confirmed the companies he use would have covered this so $700 out of pocket for expenses due to airline and wasted $350 for the insurance.

Highly recommend

Very efficient company , claims made were paid out promptly . Great communication from staff via both phone calls and emails .

Easier to organise

I have always been with a nationally known travel insurer. Having reached 70, I decided to check out costs and coverage for existing conditions, by other insurance providers. I was pleasantly surprised to come across 1 Cover Travel online. A short discussion, a proposal and quote - I was happy to purchase travel cover. I have been to the UK (Scotland, England) and returned without incident - a great holiday.

Value for money

I have good previous claims experience. Will definitely use this insurance policy again for my next travel. Thanks for a safe and secure travel experience.

Experience

I have used 1 Cover before. Charges for a medical condition that happened several years ago and not since are extremely high with no consideration of the time frame this happened and likelihood of it happening again

Professional and Caring

We had to contact 1Cover from Japan when our one-year-old got a high temperature the night before flying out from Japan. We needed to know the ins and outs of extending cover for a few days, as well as what we needed to do regarding airline bookings. The customer service agent was very easy to understand as she explained exactly how we had to go about any possible changes we might have needed to do. Thankfully, our child came right, but it was also very nice to receive a follow-up email from the agent. Thank you, 1Cover, for your great professionalism and caring attitude.

Easy and quick

I have claimed due to flights being cancelled in the past and they looked after me well.
I have used 1-cover exclusively for 3+ years now and travel 5-7 months a year.

Easy to set up

I have not had to claim so a bit hard to give a rating. I did find it was very easy to set up and did appreciate the inclusion of Hyper Tension within a certain level

Important to have

I take out travel insurance "just in case", Fortunately I have again not had to use my cover. I have rated 5/10 because the company did nothing for me other than cover me in case I required help! Cost effective and important to have

easy, even with pre-existing condition

With my pre-existing condition, I was pleased that the cost only increased slightly, yet I was still covered with the plan I selected.

One never knows till one claims

Like all insurances, it's not till you claim before you find out how good your insurance is. Price wise, stands out compared to others. The online process was easy, straight forward which I prefer.

I'm leaving again in August.....will take up this insurance, and if I have a claim will provide feedback on it.
