What If An Immediate Family Member Becomes Unwell?

If your policy includes family emergency as a provision, and a relative becomes hospitalised or passes away, you may be able to claim for curtailment or cancellation of the remainder of a trip, whichever is higher (you can’t claim for both).

Under this provision, a relative is defined as you or your travelling companion's mother, mother in law, father, father in law, step parent, step parent in law, sister, sister in law, brother, brother in law, wife, husband, son, son in law, daughter, daughter in law, step child, foster child, grandparent, grandchild, partner, fiance(e), spouse or guardian. To be covered, a family member must be 84 years of age or under and a resident of Australia or New Zealand.

If a relative is hospitalised or dies in Australia or New Zealand after the policy was issued as a result of a pre-existing medical condition(s) and you didn’t know that there could be a likelihood of death or hospitalisation, then we will cover you for $2000 per adult.

If you did know about the pre-existing medical condition and the likelihood of hospitalisation or death, then we wouldn’t be able to cover you.
